Christmas

Friday, December 29th, 2006

This post is 4 days late but I have been too busy to blog and Taiwan earthquake has caused a disruption to the Internet service in Singapore.

Christmas countdown was done at Eric’s place with Jackie and his friends. This is the very first time I celebrated Christmas outside home. Jackie dressed up as Santa and this excited some kids at the void deck of Eric’s block. However, they soon ‘accused’ him as a fake Santa.

We played Superman edition Monopoly and Big 2 which I caused Jackie to drink a glass of green tea mixed Vodka.

Christmas itself was spent at CSL’s house playing mahjong and the sole loser is our Mr Jackie Tan with me winning most of his money.

As promised, I shall post the photo of the “bear tree” in habourfront as well as some photos taken in Jewel Box on Mount Faber.

My blogspot account

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

Hello,

Your blog has been reviewed, verified, and cleared for regular use so that
it will no longer appear as potential spam. If you sign out of Blogger and
sign back in again, you should be able to post as normal. Thanks for your
patience, and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Sincerely,
The Blogger Team

After one month of waiting, I finally got my blogspot’s blog restored. I have since imported all the posts over. I hope I will be able to find time to include English translations for the Chinese posts.

Choon Meng’s Birthday Celebration

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

Wednesday was Choon Meng’s birthday. As he has taken leave on that special day, we celebrated his birthday one day later instead. It seems like birthday lunch has become a norm in this department, and this time round, lunch is at Oscar’s at Conrad Centennial Singapore.

I was a little surprised by this black kitten wondering outside the restaurant. There are stray cats in Singapore, but they are mostly found at housing estates. This is the first time I spot a cat in town.

The food is generally nice; well, it has to as this is an award winning restaurant we are talking about. I simply love the desserts! However, there were some hiccups like the captain not being able to find our reservation under Donald’s name.

I was very much attracted to the Conrad Bears-decorated Christmas tree and this reminded me of another “bear tree” in Habourfront. I shall post the picture of that tree here later.

Blogging in English

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Many people are asking how come my blog is no longer in Chinese but English instead. I can come up with numerous reasons for this. The first reason is I have overseas friends reading my blog and Chinese is a foreign language to them. Another reason is by typing in English, I’ll save up to 40% of my blogging time. The third reason is reading Chinese is probably saves up more reading time. Although Chinese is a second language for those residing in Singapore, somehow, Singaporeans find it more difficult to read in Chinese which is why “Speak Chinese” Campaigns are going around. Last but not least, another important reason is I think it’s high time for me to find an avenue to express myself without the habitual use of Singlish. For those who don’t know what Singlish means, it’s a “Singaporean-invented language” where its vocabulary consists of words originating from English, Chinese, Hokkien, Cantonese and Malay.

Rain, Rain, Go Away…

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

It has been raining continuously for the past two days and I’m wondering if the rain would ever stop. The intense rainfall has caused flooding in various locations in Singapore. According to the news, the wet weather is expected to continue for the rest of this week.

The continuous rain reminds me of a nursery song which I’ve learnt when I was young:

Rain, Rain, Go Away,

Come again another day,

Little Suzy wants to play.

Frustrating!!

As I attempted to login to POSB’s Internet Banking’s site today, I realised that I had to enter DBS iB Secure Pin from a small little DBS iB Secure Device everytime I login to Internet Banking.

I agree that this is an additional security feature, but it also means whenever I go out, I have to bring that device with me to be able to access Internet Banking. The device is approximately 5cm by 1.5cm by 1cm thick which is about twice the thickness of my thumbdrive, but don’t expect me to bring it out because typical items like Nintendo DS Lite, pencil case, MP3 Player, thumbdrive, W850i and my dutiful Exilim are already taking up so much space. Moreover, I’m good at misplacing items.

Having to remember passwords with different requirements is already a chore to me, now I have to remember where I place that device *thinking which location in her room did she leave it on*.

Finally…

I finally managed to get WordPress up, after 2 days of trying. I didn’t know that in order to get php support, I have to subscribe to Linux hosting instead of Windows. I wanted to try Quick Blog by GoDaddy.com, but it wasn’t really customizable.

This is the 3rd blog setup by me. The 1st blog was deleted by someone, the 2nd was deleted by blogspot admin who suspected my blog in Chinese charactors as spam blog, therefore I decided to host my own blog and this is not going to be deleted by anyone again.

The next thing that I’d want to do is: design a new blog skin!! *looking up and down for ah boy who will still be in OCS for 2 years =P*

I’ll upload more pictures and explore more functions when I have the time. Meanwhile it’s time for work!!
